The centerpiece of our upcoming holiday concert is a stunning piece from contemporary Argentinian composer Martín Palmeri, Misa a Buenos Aires. Also known simply as Misatango, it combines the unique rhythms, harmonies and melodies of the Argentinian Tango with the traditional liturgical text of the Catholic mass. Rounding out this colorful program is Gabriel Fauré’s stirring Cantique de Jean Racine, the soulful Ave Maria by the father of tango nuevo Astor Piazzolla, plus a selection of carols from around the world.
The concert will feature a roster of renowned South American soloists, including mezzo-soprano tango specialist Malena Dayen, as well as two 2018 Latin Grammy Award winners, Pedro Giraudo on bass and Rodolfo Zanetti on bandoneón. The FCC also welcomes guest conductor Eduardo Notrica to the Norwalk Concert Hall stage, allowing Maestro Rosenmeyer to trade his usual conductor’s baton for the piano keys for the Misatango.
